Autonomous Bus Scheduling System
Introduction
This project is intended to deliver a design report of autonomous bus scheduling system. The system is aimed to create an efficient passenger flow. It will be able to send extra busses to bus stops that are or are getting too crowded and also the system will choose a shorter route to itβs destination when no passengers are waiting at the coming bus stops. Users can check in at the bus stop or with their mobile phone apps. The scheduling system will then optimize the routes by taking this information into account.
Objectives
Make a design of autonomous bus scheduling system.
---Schedule
---Routing of the bus
---Low traveling and waiting times
---Network between busses
Make a simulation of the system to optimize "passenger happiness"
---Less wait time
---Less traveling time
---Less crowdedness
---More facts from survey feedback
Make a report
---Survey Result
---Literature studies
---Simulation results
Approaches
Literature studies
---Past and current attempts of making a bus schedule network
---What the regulations are for, for example, alternating a bus route
---How the current system copes with rush hours
Survey
---Waiting Time
---Travel Time
---Crowdedness
---Other possible facts from feedback
Social impacts
---Do people want busses and bus stops in their streets?
---Is the system convenient for elderly people?
---Other possible impacts: reduce carbon dioxide emissions
Society
---Current rules of autonomous driving and public transport
---Economical impacts due to job changes
---Impact when public transport become autonomous
Enterprise
---Lower costs?
---Investigate on pros and cons
Ethics
---Autonomous decision making
---Responsibility in case of an accident
---General satisfaction and individual happiness
Simulation
---Build on a 2.5d plane using Unity3D
---Environment modeled on real data from survey feedback
---Estimate general happiness of different solutions
---Use a section of the road layout of Eindhoven
