A windows emulator is an virtual operating system for your computer, that enables the ability to run 32 bit applications and such. Since the RCX 2.0 has some pretty outdated hardware and runs on 32 bit, in order for us to program the swarm it is needed to install this virtual operating system. This virtual operating system consists of 2 programs, the Windows XP Mode application and the Windows Virtual PC.Below guides are presented for both these programs.

Windows Virtual PC installation guide

1.First download the file at the following link: [1]

2.Open the downloaded file

3.Press yes when asked to install Update for Windows (KB958559)

4.Accept the license agreements

5.Restart your computer by pressing the Restart now

Windows XP Mode installation guide

1.First download the file at the following link: [2]

2.Open the downloaded and run the installation

3.Finish the installation

Configuring Windows XP Mode

1.Press the Windows start button and run Windows XP Mode inside the map called Windows Virtual PC

2.Accept the license of agreement

3.Accept on the page Installation map and references the standardlocation where Windows XP Mode-files are saved or select a new location

4.Set a password and retype it to confirm

5.Click Start setup

How to install and use an program in Windows XP Mode

1.Download the 32-bit Driver to enable the use of the USB tower at the follow link: [3]

2.Press the Windows start button and run Windows XP Mode inside the map called Windows Virtual PC

3.Open the downloaded file within the Windows XP Mode and follow the instructions of the installation

4.Finish installation and insert the USB Tower with the RCX 2.0 linked up

5.The computer should recognise the USB Tower and start the application automatically
