Click to go to Sliding Doors.

There are many aspects that need to be considered when developing the mechanical system.

Planning

Completion Due Date *a little flexible Stage
30-Sept Research existing mechanisms - Doors, Sliders, Sensors, Barcode Scanners etc.
28-Sept Create List of Requirements this component should fulfill
1-Oct Make a design selection for components
6-Oct Detailed Sketch(es) of Component
6-Oct Describe how it works/each sub-components use
9-Oct Build mini model?

Mini Brainstorm

Stuff to Consider Open/Close Mechanisms Drone Landings
Weather 270-360 Door
Pushed open by the lift inside or opens & closes via motor rotation; could possibly hit drone?
Beacon signal 1
When drone is in range; each pressure sends signal to designated leg for landing?
Does Drone Land or Not? Sliding Door
Opens when drone lands on platform, slides to the side out of the way of the drone
Symbols
Four different symbols on pressure plates to allow orientation of drone & landing locations for the legs?
Flap to Inside
The door falls away inside the chimney rather than flips out
1 Symbol/Signal
Symbol or Signal produced directly from center or one of the sides of the chimney, drone can the calculate the offset & landing location on platform

Idea Elaborations & Selection

Highlighted in green are the components that will be used when further designing the Sliding Doors component

Concept/Idea Elaborations Pros Cons

Research Questions

Scanning

Question: What kind of barcode scanners are there and how do they work?
Omni-Directional Scanner -
Fixed Position Scanner -
Require external power sources, otherwise batteries that need replacement often
Wiki-BarCode Scanners
[UPC Codes]
[Barcodes]
Barcode Scanner(s)

  • MPSi system- omnidirectional or Single scanner (CRT, speed, direction, etc)

Question: What are general specifications of such barcode scanners?

      • How fast they scan?
      • Cost?
      • Installation/ Mounting location?
      • Other necessities?
      • Can they be mounted on moving platforms?

Question: What kind of barcodes are there? What different types information can they contain?

What this research contributes to the design of this component:
(Make selection about the type of scanner that can be used & Barcode and information stored on the barcode)

Orientation

    • What kind of sensors / methods are there to orient objects a certain direction?
    • How does the drone drop package the exact same way each time?

Transponders

    • How are transponder signals sent and received?
    • Can they be coded to unique situation if so how?
    • How does the lock/unlock function via transponder key in a car work?

Opening Mechanism

    • How will drone open the door?
    • How will the door stay open?
    • How will the door keep rain out/from settling on top?
    • How does the door mechanism work?
      • 1 vs 2 doors, pop up or slide aside,
      • Will it hit the drone?
    • What kind of mechanical sliding doors are there
    • Can it hold the weight of a drone?
    • Where does the power come from to run the system?

Fixing/Maintenance

    • How robust is the system?
    • How does it send an error signal?
    • How can a person fix the mechanisms?

Environmental Concerns/Requirements

    • What are the minimum and maximum heat withstanding of the subcomponents?
    • Are the components water proof?

Requirements

Functional Product Process External

Design Selection

Opening/Closing

  • hinge,slide etc.
  • signal receiver, contact points etc.

Scanning

  • omni vs orietned

Orientation

  • symbol,...
